So NYFW has come and gone, LFW is well on its way, and as usual, I am left with an internal battle: should I, or shouldn’t I be covering fashion month? Twice a year I have this conversation with myself which usually goes something like this:
Me: “So it’s February…you know what that means. Two words: Fashion. Week.”
Me: “Ugh. I know, did you see the atrocity that was ______? God, I was embarrassed for them. But ______ was so good though, I’m still dying.”
“I KNOW RIGHT? But that’s not what I meant. You need to prioritize your life! Are you covering fashion week on your blog this year or what?!”
“I don’t know! Is it necessary? There’s got to be a billion other blogs covering fashion week right now. Who’s gonna care about another collage on another blog? Plus I work, like, every day this week. I don’t have time!”
“Girl, get your shit together! Besides, I don’t have the answer. I’m just a figment of your overactive imagination, remember?”
And as usual, I am left shoving the burning question to the very back of my mind until–surprise, surprise–fashion month is long gone, at which point, I sheepishly shrug to no one in particular and reassure myself, “Oh well, there’s always next season.” Does anyone else feel my dilemma here, or is this just another example of #firstworlproblems?
It’s not that I don’t keep up with all the new collections. I do–and can easily name the designer upon request when browsing through editorials months later–but with all the coverage that you’re bombarded with by a myriad of fashion and social media, (Style.com, Fashionista, blogs, tumblrs, pinterests etc.) what benefit does a “fashion week recap” provide to my readers? I guess I should be asking you guys this question instead of myself, since it’s you who’s browsing through Cheap Thrills and not me. So here goes. Honest question: would you like to see recaps/collages/reviews of collections from me, or would you rather skip it? I’ve gone nearly four years without a single recap, but hey–if there’s enough interest, I’d definitely give it a go!
But #fashionweekproblems aside, can I redirect your attention to my newest wardrobe addition? I’ve got a new favourite shirt thanks to the lovely Selina over at Motel Rocks, one that fits as amazing as it looks. I’ll definitely be wearing this bad boy with everything, including this gem of a clutch that I haven’t used in ages.
PS. Motel Rocks also provided me with a 15% off code for my readers: TOPBLOG15. Enjoy!
Wearing a vintage blazer, shirt c/o Motel Rocks, thrifted belt, vintage clutch, Wranco jeans, and Vince Camuto booties.

>I think that you have no need to blog about fashion week except for if there is something that catches your eye, like doing a round up of favourite street style or shows! otherwise keep doing what you are doing – I love it!

>Haha, ME TOO! I always end up covering a few shows but usually don't have time to check everything out and then I just… forget about it untill next season. But I mean, there's the pret-à-porter, couture, prefall, resort,.. I can't keep up with that! I do however like seeing some recaps on blogs because then I see which shows I've missed and should definitely be checking out. So I vote yes! :)

>You definitely don't need to write or make a NYFW blog post unless there is something that you absolutely love. Most bloggers are writing about those kick ass parties hosted by their sponsors anyways.

>I think if you want to do it, then do it! But its not a major thing if you don't, as you said there are a billion other blogs who cover it. And personally, I would much prefer you to put the time you could be doing a post on FW on an outfit post, outfit posts are way more interesting.

>Only if you want to; maybe a review on your favourite collections.
I have the same discussion with my self every fashion month. One of my peeves when it comes to blogs is when the blogger reposts everything from style.com. Like seriously do you that little to do that you can/want to do that? And I find it boring. I only post collections from fashion weeks if I really, REALLY like it.

>from my point of view, it's interesting to see coverage form someone who is/was there. if you weren't, I see no need to post about it. like you said, "There's got to be a billion other blogs covering fashion week right now" – yes, there are and it's getting so damn boring, I just skip it.

>If there's a line in particular that you are inspired by, go ahead and blog about it. If not, there's no reason to post about somehing kind of redundant.

>Ahahaha, I totally agree! I have the exact same conversation with myself every year (although my subconscious tends to do a lot more swearing).
My thought is this: if you can say something novel about a collection, curate your favorite picks in your own way, etc. then it's totally worth it! I don't necessarily need to see the entire collection cut and pasted from style.com. But that's just my opinion ;)
By Georgia February 18, 2012 - 12:08 PM
>I like to read recaps sometimes to get an overview so I don't have to browse everything. But if its a show thats repeated everywhere, I get so so so bored. So maybe do shows with less coverage but still awesome?
It would be mine
My ticket got lost in the post LOL
Awesome shoes too.

>Great outfit, I'm not really going to post about fashion week either, you can see it on nearly every other blog; being the same is something I didn't want my blog to be.

>Cute outfit girl. Don't worry about recapping fashion week! I wasn't even that impressed by any collections, meh, I don't really care. You see it on style.com, no need to repeat anything.
By leyla. February 18, 2012 - 5:51 AM
>to be honest, i'm a little annoyed by all the fashion week coverage. every blog and fashion magazine pretty much cover the same and it gets pretty repetitive. i rather take a peek at all the streetstyle snapshots and entertain myself that way.
it's nice to see you wearing jeans and the clutch is great. love the color and the zipper detail.
enjoy your weekend!
By "coy" colleen February 18, 2012 - 5:02 AM
>i feel you, girl
if you don't feel like recapping, don't. but if there's something that really inspires you, then post about it!
i agree, no one wants to read/see the same thing over and over again. your blog is so unique & amazing as it is but if you're really moved by something you saw, i think that would be your only inclination to blog about fashion week :)
By Annika February 18, 2012 - 4:37 AM
>haha i know exactly what you mean. i always try and avoid covering the same things other bloggers post about, it gets so boring right?
either way, i love your blog :)
you look great!

>no you don't need too. its true most other blogs do it, like i got stuff on mine right now. but i'm not going over board either. that would be to much to do. so i think you are good to stick your outfits.
