Beauty: Spring 2012

While the blogosphere goes gaga over the season’s latest clothing trends, I thought I’d step away from the print-layering (“Florals for spring? Groundbreaking”) and pastel hues for a moment and focus on the beauty aspect of fashion.

Without further ado, here’s my interpretation of four of spring 2012′s biggest beauty trends modeled by my gorgeous friend, Adrianna.

BARE MINIMUM

As the look suggests, it really is all about keeping everything to a bare minimum and letting your natural beauty shine through. Seen at Proenza Schouler, the au naturel route will not only save you time as you rush out the door, but ensures that all eyes will be on your outfit.

For this look, all you need is a touch of concealer (under the eyes and around the nose), a sweep of mattifying powder and a hint of blush. Done! Finish the look with a simple fishtail braid and you’re good to go.

THE BRIGHT LIP

Bold matte lips (in shades of reds, fuchsias and oranges) are back again, as seen at Erdem, Jason Wu and Prabal Gurung–to name a few. Here, I’ve paired it with a crisp white button up and a low, messy bun. How’s that for an undone, every-day elegance?

To get the perfect red-orange hue, I mixed MAC’s Morange with Revlon’s Love That Red (but you can also use MAC Lady Danger) and finished it off by patting on a matte orange shadow (try Make Up For Ever #018). Make sure to keep your lips the main focus by doing minimal makeup everywhere else–groomed brows and just a touch of mascara are all you need.

DOLL FACE

It was all about pastels and lace at Louis Vuitton this season, and with it, a very pretty, girlie glow. Although I’m not one to go for the ultra-feminine look, I think this look would look amazing with a simple sun dress or a 50′s inspired vintage outfit.

The doll-like look shown on the runways focused on fluttery lashes and luminous skin, but for this look, I really wanted to play with pastel pink eyes. To get “the glow”, I lightly dusted a pearly highlighter (Physician’s Formula Happy Booster Powder in Translucent) all over, swept on a pink blush (NYC Mosaic in Rose Glow) and brushed pastel pink eyeshadow just up to her crease (I can’t think of a good one, but I’m sure you could also use blush). Also, I couldn’t resist giving her a fun updo for maximum cuteness!

SPORTY SPICE

With track-inspired pants and sneakers making appearances on stylish bloggers everywhere, it’s clear that the athletic look is back with a vengeance. The sporty craze, as I call it, was reinforced this season when models at Alexander Wang and Helmut Lang were sent down the runways sporting “just out of the shower” wet do’s and slicked back buns, respectively.

Here, I added a sunny glow in addition to Adrianna’s wet tresses (just use tons of mousse) with a liberal application of bronzer on her temples, cheekbones and jawline (try Rimmel Natural Bronze in Sun Bronze or NARS Casino). I finished her look with a “post-work out glow” by patting on a light-weight moisturizer.
