As an avid thrifter, I not only buy secondhand and vintage clothing for one-of-a-kind budget-friendly pieces, but also because I feel good knowing that I’m making an eco-friendly decision by recycling and not buying new. That’s why, when I was approached by the SWAP team–a non-profit enterprise run entirely by volunteers–to help spread the word about their Take Your Clothes Off Event, I didn’t hesitate to participate!
Since 2007, the SWAP team has been organizing giant clothing swaps for charity across Canada and the United States, and–for the first time ever–Take Your Clothes Off is finally coming to Winnipeg! The event will be held at the Delta Down Town on April 21, 2012 from 11am to 4pm, with proceeds going towards Kids Help Phone and left over clothing donated to the Salvation Army. Tickets are $5 advance or $7 at the door.
So there you have it. If you’re in the city next week, you can spend Earth Weekend getting yourself some sweet new clothes that are both ecological and charitable–and what’s better than that?! Hope to see you there, I’ll be helping to curate some of the pieces that go into the swap as well, so if you see me, stop by and say hello!

This is the kind of event I support wholeheartedly. If only it was slightly nearer!
